Parcelling as a means of expressing the image of the author in Agatha Christie's work "Five Piglets"

Kuznetsova Maria Alekseevna  (Candidate of Philological Sciences Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Educational Technologies and Humanities)

The image of the author in literature is a category existing at the junction of literary studies and general linguistics. That is why a single, universal definition of this concept has not yet been developed. Manifesting itself in many different aspects – compositional techniques used by the creator of a literary text; the palette of visual and expressive means used by the writer; the thesaurus of the work; the type of narrative, etc., the image of the author is present in any literary work. It is possible to describe the image of the author only by identifying a unique set of specific techniques and methods that the writer uses as part of the creative process. This article is devoted to the study of the author's origin in Agatha Christie's novel "Five Little Pigs". The object, by the example of which the patterns of the writer's style of the "queen of the detective" were studied, was the instrument of expressive syntax, popular in the English–speaking speech tradition - parcellation. Based on the material of the novel "Five Little Pigs", the functionality of the packaged designs used by Agatha Christie to create an emotional portrait of the characters of this work in the process of unfolding the plot is demonstrated. It is shown that, despite the differences in the characters, temperament and social status of the characters, their speech behavior in similar situations was largely similar to each other, which indicates the use of Agatha Christie's parcel to build the architecture of the imagery of the novel through manipulation of the characters' speech behavior.

Keywords:the image of the author; the use of figurative and expressive linguistic means in literature; parcellation; Agatha Christie's writing style; A. Christie's novel "Five Piglets".
