English incorporated complexes in a sentence

Shcherbo Polina Alekseevna  (PhD in Linguistics, Associate Professor, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO))

The article is devoted to analysis of functions of English incorporated complexes in a sentence. The complexes are treated as technical means of syntactic grouping within a sentence by merging of individual words into a unity that displays characteristics of a certain lexico-semantic class and preforms functions of different parts of speech in the syntactic structure of the sentence. Thus, incorporated complexes are examined on the lexical and the syntactic levels. The article discusses possible morphological variations in incorporated complexes, their functions and relations to other parts of the sentence as dependent on their position and role in a sentence.

Keywords:incorporated complexes, syntactic position, part of speech, combinability, grammatical relations.
