Spiritual and moral education: understanding the definition

The article presents the understanding of the definition of "spiritual and moral education", discusses the theoretical foundations of the spiritual and moral education of children and youth, the concept of "spirituality", "morality" in the interpretation of different authors. Through spiritual and moral education, according to the authors of the article, the initiation and transmission to the younger generation of traditional values ​​for Russian culture, which contribute to spiritual renewal, the disclosure of the creative resources of the individual, its internal activity, should be carried out. Spiritual and moral education contributes to the formation in children and youth of moral feelings (conscience, responsibility, duty, citizenship, patriotism), moral character (patience, mercy, gentleness), moral position (ability to distinguish between good and evil, empathy, readiness to overcome life tests), moral behavior. Spiritual and moral education has a significant impact on the formation of the core of the personality, has a beneficial effect on all aspects and forms of a person’s relationship with the world, on his ethical and aesthetic development, the formation of a worldview, citizenship, patriotic and family orientation, intellectual potential, emotional state, general mental and physical development.
