Reduplicated constructions with the adverbial participles, ending with –an in the Yakut language

Samsonova E. M.  (Candidate of Philology Sciences, Research Fellow, Institute for Humanities Research and Indigenous Studies of the North SB RAS (Yakutsk))

The article is devoted to the consideration of structural and functional features of one of the most used reduplicated verb forms of the Yakut language – the adverbial participle ending with -an. The analysis of the factual material showed that the complete reduplication of these adverbs serves mainly to convey aspectual semantics and in some cases has a modal meaning. Partial reduplication is represented by two types of transformations – the addition of predicate affixes to the second component of the construction and the addition of emphatic length in the first component. Three varieties of combinations of the adverbial participle ending with -an with other verb forms formed from the same base have also been identified.

Keywords:Yakut language, reduplication, verb, converb, aspectuality, modality, construction.
