Mousike education of women in ancient Sparta

The article discusses the content and organization of the mousike education of girls in Ancient Sparta in the archaic and classical period. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the sources, the authors conclude that the daughters of the spartiates were trained in choral singing, music, dancing, versification under the supervision of the civil collective of the polis. Some girls from elite strata privately mastered reading and writing.
