The article reviews issues of the choice and organization of means of expression into a consistent meaningful whole – a text, and also shows the dependence of the meaning of the word on the mentioned whole. In the text as a phenomenon of the use of language, the means of expression form a network of relations among themselves, which indicates their orderliness. The orderliness appears in the verbal sequences by the repetition of the word or by the semantic convergence of the words used. Ordered means of expression carry additional meanings, which most clearly appear in some words. Such meanings are named "combinatorial increments" by B.A. Larin. Due to them, the language is continuously reproduced as a means of expressing thoughts and feelings: increments, growing from the interaction of elements repeatedly used in diverse texts, express in the language that novelty, which is connected with the point of view of the subject of speech. The identification of increments is facilitated by the study of the language composition of the text, which serves as a link between the word and all categories of the work. The language composition is liable for the coexistence of means of expression, reflected in the meanings of words. The key role in the process of cognition of increments of meanings is performed by verbal sequences, that act as components of the text organization. In the article, a stylistic analysis of two passages from two novels is performed, which made it possible to identify the "combinatorial increments" of the meaning of the word “window”.
