THE CATEGORY OF GENDER AND NUMBER OF A NOUN IN THE RUSSIAN AND BURYAT LANGUAGES (COMPARATIVE ASPECT)

The article deals with the categories of gender and number of nouns in the Russian and Buryat languages in a comparative aspect. The Russian and Buryat languages belong to languages with different structures, and differences in these categories can be traced at all levels of grammar of the compared languages. The category of grammatical gender in the Russian language appears at almost all levels of the structure of the language; lexical, morphological and derivational and syntactic. But it manifests itself most consistently at the syntactic level, which is one of the distinguishing features of the grammatical structure of the Russian language from the comparable one. In all Mongolian languages, including Buryat, there is no category of grammatical gender, but there are some ways to designate people and animals depending on belonging to a particular gender.
