With the beginning of the civil War in the Don and Volunteer Army, the question of creating aviation units, which are beginning to turn into an independent type of armed forces, becomes acute. The experience of the First World War showed the increasing role of aviation on the battlefield and its significant contribution to the final result of the struggle. In this regard, it became necessary to create aviation detachments in order to support troops on the battlefield.
