Merkuryeva Natalia Yuryevna  (associate professor Moscow Metropolitan Governance Yury Luzhkov University )

The article deals with interrogative constructions with attached and insertion discourse structures used by Betty Neels, a famous British writer of the 20th century, in her novel “Tulips for Augusta”, written in 1971. Among discourse components, tag-questions and pragmatic markers belonging to different morpho-syntactic categories (interjections, adverbs, predicative and non-predicative word combinations) are discussed. Some lexical, grammatical and stylistic characteristics of the constructions are paid attention to (lexical and grammatical characteristics of the discourse components, their placement in the receiving sentence, the author’s choice when combining several structures in one construction). The results can be used for the preparation of lectures in the disciplines of History of English, Stylistics, in the practice of teaching oral and written speech, as well as in conducting research in the field of modern and historical syntax.
