TRANSLATOR’S ADDRESS IN LATE ANTIQUITY AND MEDIEVAL PARATEXTS: CROSS-CULTURAL ANALYSIS

The article deals with one of translators’ paratexts topoi, namely, the dedication or the appeal to the addressee. Apart from standard greeting formulae this part of the paratexts contains some information about the personal features of the addressee, their relationship with the translator and his merits and achievements. This makes such fragments a valuable source of information. The tone of the translator’s address depends on the social status of the formal recipient and their relationship with the translator.
