CONTRIBUTION OF THE DOCTOR LYKSOK ZHABE IN THE REBIRTH OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDED TO INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES OF WESTERN TRANSBAIKAL REGION

It is only in the 1910s – 1920s that the first feldsher’s station for indigenous communities in Agin steppes of Eastern Transbaikal region. A native of Agin Buryats, the Western-educated first doctor of the pre-revolutionary period, Lyksok Zhapovich Zhabe, in the early 1920s set up the first hospital and outpatient department in the vast lands of Agin aimak. Thus, in the history of national health care he created the necessary foundation for the beginning of measures to reduce infant and maternal mortality and mortality from social diseases, which were the main causes of demographic losses of the indigenous population of Transbaikalia in the pre-revolutionary period.
