The article discusses the main approaches to the study of cognitive verbs of the English language. The corresponding lexico-semantic group of cognitive verbs is distinguished. The analysis of the principles and criteria for the identification of cognitive verbs is carried out. The author's vision of the systematic study of lexical units with the involvement of new methods and modern trends in linguistics is presented.
