The functions of dialogue in folklore works are diverse. The dialogical form of the plot construction of the text is mainly found in lyrical poetry – in labor, love songs, as well as in family and ritual lyrics. At the same time, dialogue as a structural component of the composition of the plot is also characteristic of the prose genres of folklore, in particular – for fairy tales about animals. In many cases, the dialogical form of plot construction even prevails over the narrative part, and the basis of the text in such cases is a dialogue. In the dialogues, the characters of fairy tales seem to be alone with each other, which enhances the drama of a particular situation, gives the plot an emotional mood. The purpose of this article is to identify and analyze the functions of dialogue in fairy–tale narration based on a specific analysis of a number of plots of fairy tales about animals, as well as to consider the role and significance of dialogue in revealing the idea of a fairy tale.
