THE INTEGRATION OF TASK-BASED LEARNING AND CASE STUDY AT THE ENGLISH CLASSES WITH THE CADETS OF THE MARITIME STATE UNIVERSITY NAMED AFTER ADMIRAL G. I. NEVELSKOY

The article is devoted to the integration of the approaches of English teaching for Maritime State University cadets when teaching them first General English and then English for specific purposes. The search for activities that will support the integration of cadets into certain professionally-oriented situations is a hot issue among teachers. The article describes how the method of task-based learning combined with basic techniques for critical thinking can be employed to provide the foreign language communication in the professional field. The article focuses on various practical-oriented tasks which induce two basic types of the speech activity and reconstruct real-life situations happening in professional life in the same way. The prospects and values brought by the implementation of task-based learning are as follows: the transformation of knowledge from the learner to the learner rather than from the teacher to the learner; development of communication skills; learning professional skills for the future job. A flexible approach to the integration from General English to Maritime English, which is the main one in the further professional communication of future sailors.
