CONTRADICTION, PARADOX AND ABSURDITY (ON THE QUESTION OF THE RELATION OF CONCEPTS)

The article describes the differentiation of two types of contradiction — internal (belonging to the speech of one person) and external (realized in the words of different subjects). The role of this distinction in the description of various types of absurd and paradoxical statements is demonstrated. It is shown that the actual inconsistency of a statement is a special case of ambiguity and at the same time underlies linguistic phenomena that are neither paradoxical nor absurd. Unlike other forms of actualization of contradiction, both paradox and absurdity require the simultaneous realization of opposite meanings.
