Farajova Aynur Aydin  (Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Institute of Folklore of ANAS)

The article examines the line of the meaning of the sea element of the Oguz theocosmogonic system in folklore. The key role in Azerbaijani folklore from the point of view of studying the theo-cosmogonic genealogy of the Oghuzs is played by the mythological identity of the 6 sons of the Oghuz-khagan. Every Oguz man was connected with God through his grandfather and the greatest ancestor of the Oguz-khagan, who personified nature. Because the root of this genealogy, its first beginning, comes directly from God. Therefore, every Oghuz Turk knew exactly his theocosmogonic pedigree and defended it as the apple of his eye. The most important signs of traceability of Oguz theogonic views in folklore are the elements of origin, birth. The main content of both theogony and cosmogony is being, creation. Therefore, such questions as who was born from whom, what came from what, ancestors, grandfathers, have a special meaning and role. In this regard, it can be considered that in Azerbaijani folklore there are traces of the theogonic element of Deniz Khan in the plots of creations related to water.
