The purpose of this article is to identify and explore the possibilities associated with the use of professionally oriented tasks in various sections of higher mathematics in the framework of teaching students in specialties related to marine, river and other types of vessels. The authors of the work proceed from the position that university graduates during their studies should form for themselves a holistic scientific picture of the world, which develops in their minds due to the implementation of meta-subject and interdisciplinary connections in practical classes. One of the means to achieve this goal is the professionally oriented content of educational tasks. The use of such tasks in higher mathematics classes forms students' understanding of the applicability of mathematics in other disciplines related to their subsequent work, which also affects the motivational component of learning: interest in the knowledge and study of higher and discrete mathematics increases. In addition, the use of professionally oriented tasks in practical classes contributes to the professional socialization of students and junior cadets who are not yet fully immersed in the study of highly specialized academic disciplines, the development of engineering thinking as the main skill of future specialists of the marine and river fleet.

Keywords:professionally oriented education, content of tasks, higher mathematics, discrete mathematics, professional socialization, educational motivation, sea and river fleet specialties
