CAMPAIGN TO CREATE NATIONAL PARKS IN THE SVALBARD ARCHIPELAGO: MAIN REASONS, RESULTS AND SIGNIFICANCE

The article examines the history of the establishment of protected areas in the form of national parks in the Svalbard archipelago. Based on archival data and analysis of legal sources, conclusions are drawn about the main reasons for the creation of an extensive system of nature protection territories in the archipelago. As a result of the analysis, the importance of national parks occupying large territories in the Svalbard archipelago has been determined.
