HU YINGNANFEATURES OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF SYMBOLISM IN CHINA

The article is devoted to the understanding of symbolism by Chinese writers at different stages and to the identification of links between traditional Chinese culture and symbolism. Particular attention is paid to the development of the «Pure Poetry» concept in China and the «Xing» technique in classical Chinese poetry. The paper examines the significance of symbolism in the context of cultural changes in China in a special period, when the relationship between Western symbolism and traditional Chinese culture alternated between old and new. Symbolism corrected the complete denial of traditional culture that arose at that time and helped solve the problem of the lack of a clear distinction between poetry and prose in connection with the transition to Baihua.
