MISSIONARY AND ANTI-SECTARIAN ACTIVITY OF THE TAURIDE ARCHBISHOP GURIY (KARPOV)

Archbishop Gury (Karpov) is a prominent church preacher and missionary, a participant in Beijing spiritual missions, a researcher of sects and an apologist for Orthodoxy. His church and state activities fell on a difficult period in Russian history. In his work, Archbishop Gury focused mainly on the following aspects: church-state activities (participation in Beijing spiritual missions), organization of anti-sectarian work (missionary trips, sermons, meetings, publication of anti-sectarian writings, etc.), support of the clergy (attention to the moral side life of priests, religious education, material support), charity (opening parish brotherhoods, holding meetings, etc.), preaching. His efforts had a significant impact on the further development of the Tauride diocese.
