THE PROJECT FOR THE CREATION OF AN EDUCATIONAL BILINGUAL DICTIONARY OF BIOCHEMICAL TERMS

This article presents the project of the Russian-English Dictionary of Biochemistry Terms which is a special educational bilingual dictionary aimed at the formation of the functional aspect of educational and professional speech and further improvement of the system of teaching foreign students the language of the specialty. It is planned to create a bilingual terminological dictionary, addressed not only to foreign students studying Russian, but also to Russian students studying English. It may also be of interest to specialists traveling abroad for internships and work. It should be noted that dictionaries intended, for example, for foreign students of medical specialties, are considered to be one of the important means of forming professional vocabulary. The ultimate goal of teaching foreign students of medical universities is the formation of professional competencies comparable to those of Russian students. It is impossible without the knowledge of the terminology of special disciplines. Special dictionaries, as a rule, cannot be of significant assistance to foreign students, as they are aimed at native speakers. The characteristic features of the Russian-English Dictionary of Biochemistry Terms are the emphasis on the frequency of use and the description of terminological vocabulary, taking into account systemic links. The selected language material includes the units necessary for the formation of competencies and the implementation of the functional principle of teaching. The educational aspect of the dictionary is manifested both in the selection and in the presentation of the language material. The selection of vocabulary was carried out taking into account the frequency and relevance of the term, as well as its word-formation potential and the ability to be combined with other words. Units were extracted from monolingual and bilingual special dictionaries and textbooks recommended for the students of medical universities.
