DEFINING THE TERM "ABBREVIATION" IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ENGLISH MILITARY LEXIS

The article provides different variants of the definition of the term “abbre-viation” in Russian and foreign linguistics. The authors offer their classifi-cation which is based on the analysis of genus-species relations between coexisting terms in the terminology field of “abbreviation”. The most rele-vant definition of this term in the context of the English military lexis is given, taking into consideration the most essential described linguistic fea-tures of abbreviations.
