SOME FEATURES OF ABBREVIATION FUNCTIONING IN MODERN ENGLISH INTERNET DISCOURSE

This article is devoted to the characteristics of the peculiarities of abbreviation existence in modern English. The authors analyze English-language chats, forums and blogs and identify some characteristic features of the functioning of the studied units in the texts of the English-language Internet discourse. It is determined that abbreviation, as one of the ways of word formation, is quite widespread in modern English. The key features and properties of abbreviations of modern English-language Internet discourse are described. The abbreviation corresponds to all the features of both a language sign and a language unit. Special attention is paid to the ability of the abbreviation to form new language units.
