This article aims to identify ways to overcome the problems of teaching disciplines of the engineering-graphic cycle (descriptive geometry and engineering graphics) at a technical university. Based on an analysis of literary sources, as well as his own teaching experience, the author determines a list of difficulties faced by teachers and students in teaching and mastering the designated disciplines. As a result, the article proposes a list of measures that will help overcome the identified difficulties, on the one hand, and will improve the quality of students’ assimilation of engineering and graphic cycle subjects, on the other. The author notes that modern didactic thought in this regard needs to clarify ways to intensify the learning process, strengthen the position of professional orientation when teaching engineering and graphic subjects, which will make it possible to demonstrate in a more obvious way for students the connection between basic engineering disciplines and their future professional activities.
