FUNCTIONALITY OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE JOURNALISTIC TEXTS

The article describes the functionality that characterizes the role of phraseological units in journalistic texts in English. The analyzed material is selected from authentic newspaper articles. The frequency of the use of phraseological units in such texts is revealed. Three functions that reveal the features of phraseological units used in journalism are considered with emphasis. These include generalizing, evaluative-characterizing and expressive-figurative functions.
