MEANS OF MODALITY EXPRESSION IN MASS-MEDIA TEXTS AND PECULIARITIES OF THEIR TRANSLATION FROM ENGLISH INTO RUSSIAN

In recent years, many studies have appeared in linguistics concerning to the category of modality. Modality expresses different types of the statement's relation to reality, as well as different types of subjective assessment of the reported facts. The problem of serving modality while translating texts from a foreign language into Russian is quite actual. What means of the TL-source should be used in the process of translating English newspaper article into Russian? Should modality always be served in translation texts or, paying attention to the different mentality, should the translation be adapted to the TL culture? The author of this article is trying to answer these questions.
