This paper considers rotations of the chairmen that took place in the district executive committees of the North Ossetian ASSR in 1953-1961 on the basis of party documents which have been introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The authors focused on the level of turnover of chairmen in different years, the causes of the removal and the sources of replenishment of the corps of chairmen of district executive committees. The research results show that one of the main tasks of the rotation was the replacement of ineffective executive committees’ heads. At the same time, the most successful chairmen were nominated for high positions not only in district committees of CPSU, but also in the regional party committee.
