THEMATIC GROUP 'NAME OF DISEASES' IN THE TEXTS OF F.M. DOSTOEVSKY (ON THE MATERIAL OF PERSONAL LETTERS)

The article examines different interpretations of the concept "thematic group", with the emphasis on the fact that any grouping of lexical units on the basis of the invariant meaning is a manifestation of the lexical system and, accordingly, has the properties of the system - substance, integrity and structure. The linguistic picture of the world, including the individual author's one, is understood as a set of interconnected semantic fields, which, in their turn, consist of thematic and lexical-semantic groups. The concept 'disease' takes one of the central places in the thesaurus of F.M. Dostoevsky, thus the words included in the thematic group 'disease name' have a high relative frequency of use and functional significance in the writer's texts, including epistolary ones. Explanatory, encyclopedic and special, medical dictionaries, as well as the resources of Dostoevsky's Idioglossary are used as the material for the study.
