Causative verb « razdrazhat'» (to irritate) in Russian

The article outlines the functional potential of the causative verb "razdrazhat'"(to irritate) in the Russian language. The author focuses on the realization of the verb’s emotive function which is regarded as a specific form of emotional communication. The verb "раздражать" (to irritate) displays negative emotional state of the object of causation, whereas the linguistic means of actualizing the instrumental meaning, the impact intensity, as well as the realization of perceptual modification provided by this verb are of primal interest in the given article. The relevance of the issue is conditioned by the lack of development of the problem of correlation between causativity and emotivity. The object of research is the specificity of the causative verb "раздражать"(to irritate) functioning in the Russian language. The subject of analysis is the functional potential of the verb in the aspect of realization of the instrumental meaning in causative situations. The material of the research is the data from a number of dictionaries and corpuses. Methods used are hypothetical-deductive method, contextual analysis.
