Hesychasm in the history of the formation of Orthodox mysticism

The object of research is the history of Hesychasm as the flow in the mystical theology and as a spiritual practice of Orthodox Church. The subject of research is the history of the theoretical study and practical implementation of Hesychasm in Greece, Byzantium and Russia, as well as the history of its interpretation in the tradition of patristic theology and religious studies. The purpose of the article is to establish the place and role of Hesychasm as a unique exercise in the process of becoming an Orthodox mystical theology and to reveal its impact on Christian theology in general. The research methodology is based on the comparative-historical method, textual analysis of theological texts of the Orthodox tradition. Results: in contrast to the dogmatic theology, mystical theology, on the issues of the knowledge of God and deification, based on spiritual practices, and leading practice of its kind, became an independent doctrine in Orthodoxy, became Hesychasm. Application of the results: the data presented in the text, and the conclusions of the article can be used in teaching the history of the Church's teaching, in theological and religious studies.
