The way of mastering the means of expressing subjective modality in scientific speech of foreign students

Contemporary linguists increasingly register large-scale "invasion" of emotional and subjective elements into academic language style and texts. In the course of their studies at higher education institutions, foreign students become exposed to Russian academic speech. Every type of activity in which students are engaged in educational and professional field involves some need for the use of lexical means of expressing subjective modality. Present-day foreign students show low proficiency in using these lexical units which doesn't meet the requirements of the state educational standard in "Russian as a foreign language" corresponding to the 1st and 2nd certification levels of professional language competence. To overcome this deficiency, a system of practice has been proposed to help improve the level of command of lexical means of expressing subjective modality in foreign students' academic speech. Its principal aspects are presented in the article.
