Spy novel as a typical genre of the literature of the 20th century

The article is devoted to a relatively young genre of the spy novel and its place in the system of genres of the modern literature. Authors define some dominant traits of the spy novel and though underlining its genetic affinity to the detective, show some differentiating traits. It is proved in the article that the spy novel is a part of the mass literature that is closely connected with the so called elite literature die to the double coding.
