Missionarian activity in the Kazan government in the second half of the XIX - the beginning of the XX centuries as a tool of formation of confessional policy in the Russian Empire

The author of the article analyzes the problems connected with the struggle against the gentiles and the apostate movement among the baptized non-Russian population of the empire, including the Kazan region in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. An important task of the Orthodox Church was religious enlightenment and moral education of a baptized non-Russian population. On the issues of education and education of foreigners of the Russian Empire in the post-reform period, the government and missionary approaches coexisted.
