“The Seagull” by A.P. Chekhov. Croatian translations: transliteration of proper names

This article is devoted to transliteration of proper names in A. Chekhov’s “The Seagull” in Croatian translations. In March of 2017 we mark the 120th anniversary of the first translation of the play into a foreign language, made by the Croatian translator, publisher and journalist M. Marekovic. In the 20th century “The Seagull” was translated into Croatian three more times, and based on these translations the play was successfully staged in Croatian theatres.
