On the origins of American simpletons: linguistic and cultural specific features of B.Franklin’s Poor Richard

The article considers the historical background for the images of simpletons in American literature. Particular attention is paid to Poor Richard, the main character of B. Franklin’s "Poor Richard's Almanac", which initiated the tradition of American simpletons.
