The specifics of the evolution of satire in the European literary process

The article gives a brief overview of the evolution of satire as a form of comic relief in the framework of the European literary process. Since antiquity, the formation of two vectors of satire, which can be traced throughout its development – denunciation of the entire socio-political system of a particular socio–historical reality, and conviction of certain defects, negative qualities that cause social abnormalities. It is emphasized that in the presence of purely satirical works such as the satirical novel, fable, lampoon, and caricature, satire is distributed as an additional semantic element of an artistic work and satirical pathos.
