The article for the first time presents an analysis of the specifics of language expression of gender characteristics in the creation of female and male images of the characters of the works by American writers of the first half of the XXth century (E. Hemingway, W. Faulkner,F. Fitzgerald). The author highlights the stylistic means by which these images are presented and correlated, which, in general, helps to determine their conceptual role in the worldview of the studied American authors of the "lost generation".
