Thе article discusses the use of distance technologies in teaching English at a university. It is noted that the principles of distance learning organization are of methodological importance for successful distance learning of the English language. Special attention is paid to the organization of the distance learning process and the factors contributing to its effectiveness.
Models of distance learning and distance technologies are characterized. It is emphasized that any model of distance learning should provide for a combination of independent work with the study of educational materials specially developed for the course of studying English at a university. The perspectives of distance learning of the English language at the university are considered.
The author comes to the conclusion that distance learning is a motivating factor in the study of the English language, contributes to the achievement of personal, meta-subject, subject learning outcomes and the achievement of the goal of teaching English at a university.
