Primary and secondary functions of syntactic units in the Arabic language

Pak Viktor Mikhailovich  (Associate Professor, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University)

The article draws attention to the incompleteness of the theoretical description of Arabic syntax, since it lacks a theoretical substantiation of such a phenomenon as the functioning of identical units from the point of view of the internal structure as communicative units (utterances) and nominative units (components of utterances). To solve this problem, a comparison is made with the situation that has developed in European linguistics, data from the general theory of system research are involved, in particular, the position that the system description of an object covers not only its internal structure (i.e., ways of organizing the elements that make up that or another object), but also its external structure (environment), which, acting on the object, ultimately determines its functional characteristics.

Keywords:Arabic linguistics; Arabic syntax; external structure; internal structure; statement; communicative units.
