The article presents the results of a study of the current state of student groups in the specialty “Physical Culture and Sports” at the university. It is shown that the student group is the basis of the structure of the educational process in the implementation of any educational model. A student group as an organization of individuals is created at a university by the administration of the institution to ensure management of the educational process. There are different pproaches to forming student groups, but it should be noted that it is not possible to assemble a group in which the characteristics of all students will initially be taken into account. It is noted that during the general crisis of education, the student group has been and remains an important element of the structure of the educational process. At the initial stage of education, the creation of student study groups is the prerogative of the university administration, which in its activities is not able to take into account the diverse motivational interests of students. The formal association of students in an organization hides many processes of student identification, which can have a significant impact on all further studies and professional prospects. The low involvement of modern students in self-government can be corrected by carefully studying the personal characteristics of students and the factors influencing the process of consolidation and integration of their interests and preferences. Giving an artificial organization - a student group the status of a subject - promotes the involvement of students in joint educational and social activities.
