Ideas about the soul in the writings of St. Theophan the Recluse

St. Theophan the recluse one of the most prominent ecclesiastical writers of the XIX century, His creations and letters combine the areas of Orthodox theology as ascetic, patristic, axiology, psychology, philosophy and the history of the Church. This article will address the issue of the human soul. Its essence, nature and origin according to the teachings of St. Theophan the Recluse. It is often referred to as the Orthodox psychologist. He was able to combine in his writings on moral theology, which he read in the St. Petersburg theological Academy of the Orthodox anthropology and the latest achievements, then just emerging as a separate science of psychology.
