The paper focuses on the comparative characteristics of the academic concept of "Dozent/lecturer" in Russian and German linguistic cultures. The article discusses the historical and etymological origin of the lexeme in question, and analyses the results of the associative experiment, which is one of the most effective methods to identify characteristics of the concept. As a result of experiment it was discovered that the concept of "associate Professor/Dozent" in the associative-verbal network of the German-speaking and Russian-speaking subjects of academic activities has the same degree of relevance, despite the etymological difference.
