In this article the basic lexical means of expression of politeness in English are considered. At the same time the special attention is paid to a greeting, farewell, expression of gratitude and the response to gratitude.
Features of a greeting and farewell between people of different age, sex and the social statuses are considered. The special attention is paid to research of ways of expression of gratitude and the response to gratitude. Value of politeness in life of people is considered.
