From the grammatical point of view verb is one of the most complex parts of speech. The verbal paradigm is divided into two subparadigms - finite and non-finite. Among nonfinite forms, the infinitive, gerund, communion I, participle II are traditionally distinguished. In the article, non-finite forms of modern English verbs are considered according to three main criteria: semantic, formal and functional. For each criterion, issues are identified that require further consideration and study.
