The Patriotic War of 1812 had a great influence on the future, history of Russia. Society rallied in the fight against the enemy, national identity grew. The subject of consideration in the article was the unity of the people and the army. The author traces the process of formation of the people's militia. On the example of the Moscow and St. Petersburg provinces. Analyzes the characteristics of national identity, study with military supplies, weapons and training soldiers, people's contribution to victory.
