This article is devoted to the analysis of the concept MELANCHOLY, or TOSKA in Russian, occupying a key place in Russian and Chinese linguoculture. Having briefly considered the terminological apparatus of linguocultural studies, including, first of all, such notions as “linguistic picture of the world” and “concept”, the author of the article focuses on the poetic picture of the world. Having defined the essence and features of the relationship between the poetic picture of the world and the concept, which is part of the mental space of the linguistic picture of the world, the author turns to the concept TOSKA and on the material of Russian and Chinese poetry shows the common and differential features of this concept in the Russian and Chinese linguistic pictures of the world. The article concludes that, although the concept TOSKA occupies a certain place in the national language systems of both languages, these concepts in the Chinese and Russian languages are not identical, although, in relation to the language of poetry, and have some common features.
