Inclusion of the scientific method of cognition in the updated content of subjects in biology and chemistry

The article considers the ways of solving actual problems of the content renewal in the educational area "Natural-science subjects". By the example of the integration of chemistry and biology teaching courses in secondary school authors show that natural-scientific education is intended to ensure the formation of natural-scientific literacy among graduates; to acquaint with the specifics of scientific reasoning and methods of scientific cognition; to lay the foundations for a holistic view of life and the unity of nature and man. To implement these approaches, the authors propose potential areas of cooperation between the courses of these academic subjects, such as allocation of shared ideas, concepts, theoretical systems, and complex problems, usage of scientific methods of cognition. The article demonstrates that reliance on scientific methods of cognition is not the only effective methodological technique of the natural-science literacy formation, but an integrating factor in the development of common approaches to the content renewal of all natural-science subjects.
