The article presents a brief historical sketch of the development of some aspects of biological science, analyzes the contribution of Aristotle, Theophrastus, Hippocrates, Galen, Avicenna to the development of modern science, the connection between the scientific searches of scientists of antiquity and modernity. The article reveals the fundamental role of Aristotle in the formation of biology as a science, his contribution to the development of anatomy, physiology and embryology of animals, as well as the approximate classification of organisms for that time. The article reflects Aristotle's philosophical views on the origin of life. The role of Theophrastus as the "father of botany and plant geography" is described, his contribution to the development of botanical research and the accumulation of information about the role of plants in the life of nature and man. The article touches upon the question of the origins of the study of anatomy, physiology and medicine and the role of Hippocrates in these studies. The basic medical principles of Hippocrates are reflected, which have retained their relevance in modern medicine. This is the principle of empirical induction and an individual approach. A place is given to the followers of Hippocrates, among whom historians note Galen, who studied anatomy and some aspects of human physiology. In the person of Avicenna, the role of Oriental science, significant research in the field of biology and human medicine. The article analyzes the relationship between the times and scientists of different nations, the independence of science from geography and religious traditions.
