The article examines the process of formation of the sanctions regime against Rhodesia in 1965-1970 and the role played by the UN Security Council in it. The resolutions adopted by the Security Council during this period and the reports of its meetings are analyzed. A detailed examination of the resolutions and meeting records adopted by the UN from 1965 to 1970 makes it possible to argue that there was a policy of widespread restriction of trade in a range of resources against Southern Rhodesia. As a result of the analysis, it can be concluded that the process of discussing the resolutions introduced by the UN against Southern Rhodesia took place against a background of serious disputes among the members of the UN Security Council and other member states of the organization, although consensus was reached on the main issues.
