the article examines the main directions of development of Romanian literature of the 17th century, as a logical continuation of the trends formed a century earlier. The main authors and figures who contributed in one way or another to the development of Romanian writing and printing are highlighted, such as the first printer Coresi, metropolitans Varlaam and Dosoftei, who contributed to the spread of the Romanian language through the translation and adaptation of key religious texts such as Cazania, Psaltirea în versuri, Leastviță and Biblia de la București. Particular attention is paid to the regional peculiarities of literary development: in Wallachia and Moldavia, Orthodox literature dominated, while in Transylvania there was significant competition between confessions, which led to the appearance of religious works by Catholics and Calvinists. The most interesting manuscripts of the 17th century are also considered – Codex Neagoeanus (1620) and Manuscrisul de la Ieud (1621-1633). In the 17th century, literature expands its genre boundaries, new examples of "folk novels" based on ancient myths appear, such as "The History of the Trojan War".
Keywords:Romanian literature, early monuments, Varlaam, Dosoftey, codex, manuscript, folk novel.
